Peter Hannam
Yesterday our University of Guelph Agricultural Communication’s cohort had the opportunity to meet and listen to comments from Mr. Peter Hannam at the Ontario AGRICentre in Guelph. For those of you who don’t know Peter, he is considered one of Canada’s top innovative agricultural leaders and a graduate from the University of Guelph. He is founder of the First Line Seeds Company and over the years has committed much of his time and efforts in the development and marketing of soybeans for the world market. He helped in creating SOY 20/20, Soybean Opportunities for Youth, The Hannam Soybean Utilization Fund and is also a member of the University of Guelph Bioproducts Committee in addition to the many other projects he is involved with.
Peter reviewed his convocation address to the 2007 University of Guelph graduating class, emphasizing many of the ideas and values he is very passionate about. He also outlined many of the agricultural initiatives that are currently underway such as the use of soybeans in the manufacture of automobile parts (car seats in the 2008 Ford Mustang), clothing items such as t-shirts and underwear which are currently available for sale at Bloomingdales in Chicago! One of Peter’s biggest hopes is for Canada to develop premium seed varieties so that we can be the prime supplier to the world of top quality raw product for the clothing and automobile manufacturers.
